Kehä / Orbit, 2021
At the interface of light and shadow, Orbit (Kehä in Finnish) navigates the theme of infidelity. Combining elements of concreteness and abstraction, the film features women of different ages sharing their views and emotions on peripheral encounters. The black-and-white imagery glides slowly over rough, wrinkled skin and visible veins, with the camera examining the human body in grotesque realism. Familiar body parts are rendered alien, like unfamiliar particles of space, creating a sense of estrangement from the stories we hear.
Orbit was screened at DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival (2021) and the Mänttä Art Festival (2021).
The film is supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike) and the Paulo Foundation.
