A Beauty Odyssey

”You are rewarded for youth and beauty, beyond anything else you can achieve.”

A Beauty Odyssey is a 13-minute experimental short film inspired by the director’s experiences working as a videographer and editor for various social media influencers. The film explores the main character's unraveling as she realizes that her youth and beauty are rewarded far beyond her other achievements. In her search for a "time machine" to reverse her life, she becomes increasingly entangled in patriarchal beauty rituals, building her identity and happiness on her appearance.

The film reveals the brutal and hidden aspects of beauty care that are often absent from glossy social media posts or concealed by beauty professionals. It shows what it takes to chase perfection – time, pain, and blood.

There is no spoken language in the film; instead, intertitles between scenes convey the narrative.

A Beauty Odyssey had its international premiere at Nordisk Panorama in September 2024 and was also screened at the Tampere Film Festival (2024) and Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy (2024).

The film is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike).
